Four Considerations for Effectively Pricing Your Kindle Book

What should you price your Kindle book? There are no hard and fast answers, but here are some considerations.

Ebook prices usually trend much less than soft or hardcover alternatives, so if you have an ebook version, it is often (but not always) priced less than a physical book. As with most things in the e-book self-publishing realm, where your answer lies all depends on your particular and specific situation, so in order to effectively arm you with the knowledge necessary to make a sound, smart decision in pricing your Kindle e-book, I’ve provided the four tips for you below. Please do enjoy!

>> 1. Although you may hear a lot around the industry about the  under $2.99 pricing point being the way to go, this is only really feasible if you: Don’t mind a measly 30% royalty rate. However, you can price pulse your book at .99 for a short period of time in order to gain new readers.

>> 2. The only way you’ll figure out if Amazon’s premier KDP Select service is right for you and your e-books or not is by trying it. So if you’re that curious, weigh the pros and cons and try it out to see for yourself. The power of free promotional days that KDP Select offers can be a big boost to your sales, but you need to prepare properly to maximize their effect. Many people find having their book available on multiple (non-Amazon) platforms is better.

>> 3. If you have multiple related books, you can play around with the pricing strategy and see what works. Try offering one book free if you are on KDP select and the  others at .99 for a short period of time. Or have one book at .99 and the others higher.

>> 4. This may sound like common sense, but you’d be surprised how many people overlook it. Before settling on a final price point to list your Kindle e-book on the Amazon marketplace at, have a look around and document the prices your e-books competition are offering themselves at. And this doesn’t mean take a look at two or three potential competitors, but really delving into your particular topic/subject niche and comparing the pricing points of dozens upon dozens – if not hundreds – of different e-book prices. You’ll be happy you did!

Accurately and effectively pricing your e-book on the Amazon Kindle marketplace is a skill most people don’t usually pick up overnight. You’re doing well to research the different strategies and methods of efficiently pricing your e-book on the market, but just don’t get too disappointed should you not nail the pricing money spot (no pun intended) on your first few go-arounds.

Good luck!
